Three Sixty Conversations with Nicola Washington on the everyday joys of the ordinary

Too much mothering information, make motherhood diverse, social activism, social media manager, Nicola Washington, don't buy her flowers, mixed ethnicity, tamu Thomas, three sixty podcast, everyday joy, interracial family

Welcome to episode 21!  Today I am chatting with Nicola Washington.  Nicola is a writer and social media consultant for small businesses.

If you are not connected with Nicola via social media you will have heard me talk about her and link her work in previous podcast episodes as I have a real crush on her brain! You can check out some of her work here.

In this episode Nicola and I discuss equality and activism.  We delve into anti-discrimination, White privilege, equality and the need for people to turn their ego down and their humanity up so that we can dismantle oppressive systems.  We also chat about the beauty of the ordinary and why everyday joy trumps happiness.

Nicola is an avid reader and shares some of her favourite 2018 reads:

Becoming - Michelle Obama

Purple Hibiscus - Chimanada Ngozi Adichie

The Good Immigrant - Nikesh Shulka

Brit(fish) - Afua Hirsch

You can read the full list here.

If you are interested in books on race I highly recommend these. They are American but both books give a real insight to the structure or racism and the experience of racism.

White Rage - Carol Anderson

Eloquent Rage - Brittney Cooper
